MEET OUR COACHES

Stephen Fairbairn

BJJ Black Belt · Head Instructor · Founder

Coach Stephen Fairbairn is a BJJ Black Belt under Peter Irving and Crezio De Souza — a lineage that goes directly back to Carlson Gracie.

He founded Bedlington Fight Centre to bring world-class martial arts instruction to Northumberland, with a philosophy grounded in practical self-defence, honest coaching, and a gym culture that welcomes everyone.

Our philosophy of Itaipava Brazilian Jiu Jitsu treats BJJ as a fighting martial art rooted in self-defence.

Our style revolves around top pins and top control leading to submissions — while also developing guard, sweeps, and escapes that are applicable in MMA and real-world scenarios

TESTIMONIALS FROM OUR HAPPY MEMBERS

We are rated 5 out of 5 stars on Google

Karl Appleyard

"I have been a member at multiple Martial Arts gyms and this is one of the best. Stephen is a knowledgeable black belt, and both Gi and No-gi Brazilian Jiu Jitsu sessions are excellent. The mat space is also huge and has a sprung floor which helps practicing standing grappling, it’s always clean and tidy and there are multiple good grapplers training here so you can get in really good rounds with safe competent partners."

Caiden Irving

"I’ve been training at this gym in Bedlington with The Coach Stephen and I couldn’t recommend it more! Great MMA coaching, excellent Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and top-notch No Gi sessions. Stephen is a friendly and professional Black Belt who really knows his craft. Perfect for anyone looking to improve and enjoy martial arts!"

Sofia Robinson

"Great kids martial arts in Northumberland Bedlington. Helped me learn a lot of lifelong defences from BJJ to No Gi. Good techniques from black belt so also amazing if wanting to compete."
